This past weekend Ryah met one set of her grandparents for the first time! This was the first time we've had people in our house to see her since she came home 7 weeks ago. This was her first family visit and she loved it! She took to her mimi quickly, and it took her a little while to warm up to pop's but he eventually won her over with his tablet, girl loves some technology! She was also able to spend some time with Uncle Matt and Aunt Sam. Even though they live here they have been great at letting us have our time to cocoon and get Ryah ready for visitors. All of our family has been great at understanding and letting us build this foundation. Overall, Ryah did really great with the visit. We could tell she was a bit overstimulated and a little unsure at times, but really she did well with her first visitors! We have noticed since then that she has needed a little extra face time and interaction with both of us, but we are more than happy to give it and reassure her that we aren't going anywhere. While we may have had some concerns, after all was said and done, we both agreed that it was good for her to see that people can come into her space, and mommy and daddy will still be here. And once those people leave, mommy and daddy will still be here. We realize that those are patterns she has never seen before and she is used to people coming and going and not coming back. But now we want her to see that even though people may come and visit for a while- mommy and daddy aren't going anywhere.
This weekend was also good for us to see and pay attention to her cues as to how she's feeling. This toddler stuff is no joke and it takes some serious studying of your little to know what is going on. Ryah's age is hard because she can communicate a little bit, but not enough to understand what is actually going on. I think we saw some things that we weren't expecting since she has been doing so well, and we will be pulling back into the cocoon for a little bit, but the reality is that in our family she is only 7 weeks old. And for being just 7 weeks old, she handled this weekend really well! She even had her first restaurant experience and it couldn't have went better! Next weekend her other grandparents are coming to meet her, and I think we have a better handle on how things will go down after this weekend and how to help her adjust. These are things you just can't know until you have an experience and see how things go. But we are so thankful for her to be at the point of being able to meet her family who love her so much and for her to be doing so well! We can't wait for many more weekends with Pops and Mimi :) Here are some pictures of our weekend fun!
